RIP William Orbit

I am deeply saddened to hear of William Orbit passing away. As well documented throughout the many forms of the media he was 69 and passed away at his home on July 23rd. William Mark Wainright or William Orbit to you and I became a musical legend through his production work with the endless list of pop artists such as Madonna, Blur, All Saints, U2, Queen etc. The list is endless.

I was introduced to William Orbit by an old friend, John Stafford, with whom I spent many late night listening sessions sometimes into the early morning. Needless to say that throughout many of these sessions William’s Strange Cargo albums would be played many times over. This would have been in the early to mid nineties.

Over the many years since I became to identify his input into many artists music after hearing only a few seconds of it. Such was his gift as a producer and visionary. William crossed so many musical boundaries through his creative flare and musical genres too. I intend to play a few tracks on my show and of course for my own indulgence in the coming days and weeks. For those of you who may not have listened to any of the Torch Songs or Strange Cargo albums, I can highly recommend them to you. It would appear that a strange cargo has arrived at its final destination. Sleep peacefully William Orbit and thank you for sharing your vision and gift.
